My thought on gaming

Mar 14, 2011 at 12:51 pm in post by David

It’s funny how we have so many problems to solve in this “beautiful” world we live
in and yet it comes down to playing games to solve these issues. It’s strange
when someone says; I’m playing a game which is changing the world. Personally I
feel gaming is one of the best things that’s happened to us. I feel the
positives outnumber the negatives if played the right way.

We’ve all played games in our childhood. I remember playing Mario brothers day in and day out without getting bored of the
game. It had a certain hook which still amuses me. It was one of the most
successful games of its time.

Gaming is something we do to pass time or as a stress buster. Presently games such as Farmville, Cityville
and of course world of Warcraft are “in the scene” and no doubt I’m a big fan.
The forms of games vary but the results are on the same note. A good game helps
you get into it just the right amount and not get you addicted to it. The game
should keep you eager to come back and play again, moving forward – learning
something along the way which leads up to an epic win in both worlds.

Gaming is a born instinct; don’t we tend to talk most things we do as a challenge? The feeling
of competition is born in healthy gaming. I recall playing a list of games such
as cricket, football, hockey etc. With my elder cousin on the terrace of my apartment and it got pretty competitive
each time. Now when I look back it helped improve many skills. Till today I
love playing sport, football is my favorite. There is something about the game
that pulls you in over time.

At the end of the day the spirit of gaming is inside each and every one of us. And being a
part of gameful has given me that little kick to put in a helping hand to make
the world a better place through gaming.

Hearty Greetings

Today was a beautiful day for me and I hope for you too.  I was excited that it was Jane McGonigal’s book launching day, excited for Jane.  What a thrill that must be.

I first decided Jane would be my mentor last year when I saw her on TED speaking with such passion about something that made complete sense to me.  Harness the energy of the games and funnel it to make change in the world for the better.  What a vision.

But first, I had joined Jane’s Urgent Evoke when a friend of mine, InK was so excited about this new game.  InK is another mentor of mine, a techo whizcat who looks like a very very tall winged green martian in Second Life, I think if I was in my right mind I should have been afraid of InK when we first met, since I’m not a gamer.

Then, I saw Jane’s TED video.  It inspired me to work hard in Urgent Evoke, to learn, connect and to set an example for other players.  Do my part to make the game successful.  It changed my life, and that of many others so it is a huge roaring success in my mind.

And now, we have Gameful, another step in Jane’s vision.  A brand new way of gaming, so new that I vote we start calling them JaneGames then we can all be WeGotJaneGamers :)

We have such an opportunity here, as I said to the Evokers.  This is a free gift to help us help everyone to make change for the better happen.

Don’t ever think that one person can’t make a difference, even if you don’t have a lot of time just drop in and say hi.  For the rest of us, those can make or do have the time, work hard at making this site a success.  Imagine, our leader Jane wants each of us WeGotJaneGamers to win a Nobel Prize!  Such aspirations, and I believe someone here will.  There are so many good ideas, so many connections and Gameful is continuing to grow.  Right now we’re just fostering growth and watering it plenty.

For the new monsters, if you get stuck send me a friend request and a message, and we can muddle around together.

Here’s an interview from Games for Change with Jane, inspires me all over again and I hope you feel as proud as I do to be a little monster earning bling who is going to roar.

Here we go off into the wild blue yonder and it’s looking very sparklie to me.

Hearty Greetings

Get Satisfaction ~ love the name for the help reporting system Gameful are using.

The first blog I posted in Gameful, my browser crashed, the next one a blank profile page covered it for a while so there is a glitch somewhere.  If you have experienced this, please pretty please report it as @Henry Joules did because it helps improve the game.

Not only did I feel better someone else had this issue but as a seasoned troubleshooter I know it makes life easier for the Gameful folks.  Not that I felt better there was an issue, you know what I mean :)

Here’s the link, you’ll have to create a userid it’s a separate system from Gameful, then just hit the “I’m having this problem too” button how easy is that yay!

Don’t forget to fill out your profile there.

And while you’re at it, why not leave an idea or even better yet a compliment!  We all know something like this takes a lot of work and effort to pull off and I’m sure they would love to read your appreciation.

I’m looking forward to receiving Jane’s book, got my note from Amazon it’s on it’s way.  I bet she’s excited must be a good feeling to hold a vision in one’s hands.  I’m excited for her and for the enlightment it will bring to make a change for the better.  Reality is Broken sure, but it’s leaders such as Jane who will help us to help fix it.  I hope this sparks a global movement so that Jane’s next book title is Reality is Rocking!

Have a delightful day where ever you are and always live with passion.

Hugs and waving madly across the wires.
