Hi. I’ve been working on a game concept that revolves around the idea of creating original musical compositions within a social network. I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this.

Basically, you can invite friends to join a band. Each person contributes their part in ultimately creating an original piece of music. You don’t have to be a musician to participate. It’s all done through a sample of sounds library. So, the first person picks the tempo and beat, the next person adds a rhythm line, the next person adds melodic parts, and yet another adds extra percussion ect… These original compositions can be named, posted and shared throughout your network.

I love the idea of people coming together, sharing and creating in a social network. Being a musician myself, I wonder if I’m too biased towards this kind of activity?

sounds like a great idea, but I think you’d better let people do it in real time, that way it would be more fun, at least to me… say you have four friends, so the person that picks the tempo and beat, the selection of other assets in other clients would be limited to those that would work with that, and viceversa, So you have four screens to update in real time and each decision would affect what can be chosen from the other screens, and all “players” would be listening to the piece in real time, the only problem with that I think would be the size of the sound assets that need to be shared beforehand.
