Description:
A game about color and shiny things and simple delight.
Positive Emotions:
The positive emotion I focused on for Tint was delight, with curiosity coming a close second. I wanted to start with something simple as a visual and auditory result for clicking the orb and make the results more complex and stimulating as the game progressed. No score is kept however; the reward is, hopefully, delight.
I originally gave Tint to two people to play test. The first was my mother (not a gamer) and the second was my boyfriend (definitely a gamer).
Both of them chuckled when they burst the first orb and that has been the consistent reaction to the game.
Problems:
I’ve had some trouble with the background music stopping before the end of the game. I think it is the first thing to go when my computer is having trouble keeping up with the game. My other issue is that sometimes the orbs get stuck to the outer wall. I’m entirely new to game design and programming and working in Gamemaker, so if anyone has any suggestions for things I can try, I would love advice and/or feedback.
A Few Thoughts on Variations:
This game was more limited by my skill than by anything else. So here are some thoughts, moving forward.
I originally conceived of the orbs as bubbles, but the physics and animation for bubbles were beyond me. I also think that the more things that could spring out of the bubbles, the more effective it would be (a burst of butterflies or hopping frogs).
If it could be done for a touch screen that would add a physical sensation very similar to bursting bubbles; you could even use a horizontal swipe to create the bubbles, as though you were blowing them.

Caty, thank you for agreeing to my mad schemes more often than you have time for. Jacob, thank you for answering a random query for an artist and following through with awesome images. That, sir, is exactly how Gameful is supposed to work and I can’t tell you how happy it makes me.
