Anything else you want to say about the kinds of projects or people or organizations you’d like to work with?
I’m a professor and teach computer game design and development — primarily focusing on software, but also on teams and processes and tools and ….
Most of the games I’ve worked on are bits and pieces of things along with influence on student projects and games. My professional software development experience has been on tools — compilers, and simulation, and databases, and language design, and artificial intelligence. Oh, with some consulting and management thrown in as well. There’s also a substantial amount of writing and editing I’ve done over the years as well.
I’ve worked in companies of all sizes, from Hewlett-Packard down to a three person shop. I’ve most enjoyed small companies, particularly startups. The energy and variety you find there are unbeatable.
Skills and Superpowers: (What abilities would you bring to a collaboration?)
, project management, software tools, speaking, writing, game design, some sound and music. I can work with photoshop and illustrator and sundry other tools (3dsmax, …), but they aren’t a strong suit. I can do management and business as needed.
Creative problem solving and insatiable curiosity are the core that everything else springs from. Oh, and I can learn faster than a speeding bullet. (Which is hardly surprising, since most bullets aren’t terribly bright.)
3 games I’ve played that changed my life:
This is a tough one. I tend to see my life in terms of lots of little course corrections rather than a few major changes. So … for three games which have influenced me, I’d have to include Adventure, D&D, and Demons’ Souls.
