"If my life story were a game, it would be a cross between (a game from before 2000) and (a game from 2000 or later)... |
Full Throttle and Dungeons and Dragons 3.5e
Full Throttle because I feel like a cynical, disgruntled biker who seems to have incredible problem solving skills.
Ever since I met Dungeons and Dragons, it has been a huge source of drive to develop game design skills through custom rules to improve player behaviour and enjoyment. It makes the list because it is probably my single greatest source of inspiration. |

3 games I’ve played that changed my life: |
The Incredible Machine , Deus Ex, Civilization
The Incredible Machine gave me a great understanding of the mechanics of motion and force using only simple puzzles that anyone would enjoy solving. I didn’t know it at the time, but it was teaching me about physics, causality, and the idea that the world is made of materials; the basic tenets of science.
Deus Ex was like high literature in my teenage years. Such a brilliant plot with myriad options in how to equip and augment yourself but also in how missions could be completed left me in a trance. I look back on it as the best gaming experience I’ve ever had.
Civilization fostered a strong interest in governance, politics, and history within me and conveyed the grand concepts of how cities, cultures, economies and nations rise and fall. |
