Hello Gameful world, I'm new here and just testing the waters with this post. Basically I'm not really sure what I want to do, but I would love to get into design. Pretty much looking for recommendations as to where to start. In High school I took a game development class and worked with game maker and GMI. After that I went to some community collage in the IT field, but that didn't really work out because of a personal epidemic. Recently I've been working on web design and Gamification,…Continue

I have a question about how gamification and workification relate to one another. I'm trying to come up with some thoughts on the missing quadrant below. Its pretty important to the project I'm working on as its the premise of a whole series of blog posts I'm working on.
If any of you have any ideas I'd greatly appreciate it.

This message is a adapted from an email message I sent to Jane McGonigal, but it pretty much described what I wanted to do as a researcher. Any help for research would be appreciated!

I have been developing the ability to deliver A.R.G.s both traditionally and in single-story real time events. I am now running an ARG and would like to invite everyone to PLAY!
An essential part of design is to play with your games. What we offer is free, and would benefit greatly from the interaction of skilled game designers. So come to: www.thenewgame.net and enter the open game: "The Long Game". I'd be happy if you did.But if you have a…Continue

I'm doing research for my Masters in Education, and my focus is game based learning. I thought I'd share some of the resources I've found here at Gameful.
I found the following videos on YouTube both interesting and informative:

Who Knows Someone ^2 ("Who knows someone who knows someone?") is a game of social networking. That is to say, to play, and "win", you must think about who you know and use it to make connections.
The concept is that people can fill out requests to be put in contact with subject matter experts, and include some personal information about who they are and why they want to be in contact with such as person. For example, an elementary school student, who wants to find a journalist they…Continue

In a discussion of Gamification design for a classroom, a faculty member wanted to design a level system/point scale. In the discussion they wanted to have a point system for grades, but also non-point based incentives. The reason for the non-point incentives were to help encourage students to keep going in the class even if they met the threshold for success in the class already. Leveling was great, but if students got enough points in the class to reach level 6, which was a C, then why…Continue

MMORPG's don't teach much about community, unless you consider your community people to beat up, take stuff from, or use to avoid micropayments.

It started because of a song. In November 2012, I started writing The Nano Revolution, a 20 minute metal song about good intentions gone wrong. Early it became clear to me that listening to it for twenty minutes while staring at a still picture (I usually upload my songs in this format to YouTube) could be a little bit boring, so I decided to offer the listener something more engaging.
I decided against making a music video, because I highly doubt my ability to shoot a twenty minute…Continue

I am a researcher in behavioral ecology. When I am not absorbed in stereotypes like hugging trees or going into endless composting sessions, I do research and sometimes help teaching science courses. I am passionate about biodiversity (the variation you can see every aspect of life) of behavior and personality among people, animals, or avatars within a given group, population or game. This biodiversity is what enables groups to tackle challenges and being resilient to…Continue
