This message is a adapted from an email message I sent to Jane McGonigal, but it pretty much described what I wanted to do as a researcher. Any help for research would be appreciated!
My name is Katharine Hodgdon (I usually go by Katie) and I am currently a Masters student in Communication at Central Michigan University. My research interest is an Organizational Communication with a focus on innovation and productivity and millennial accommodation and recruitment in organizations. I was intrigued by the idea of gameful design, but it is only until recently that I have considered gameful design as a communication research possibility. I know there has been some research done in the field of psychology, but I would love to introduce gameful design to the field of communication. I think there are so many possibility particularly with collaboration and crowd-sourcing being used and as I continue on for my PhD, I would love for that to be my research focus!
I was hoping that you might be able to help me in terms of research. I know on Jane McGonigal's website, there are links to her own research, but I am trying to gather a pretty substantial collection. I would really like to see gameful design to be incorporated more often, especially as millennials continue to enter the workforce and the next generation are playing more games than we are at a younger age. I completely agree with the thoughts on how games can have such a positive influence, and I would love to be part of that contribution.
Any help or direction you can give me would be fantastic. I am really excited to be involved in this community and, who knows, we can be one step closer to that Nobel Peace Prize :)
Feel free to tweet (@khodgdo) back at me any time or post a comment on my gameful page! Thanks for all that you do and continue being the super heros that you are!
